James Bruno, M. D., is board certified in Neurology and Sleep Disorders. He completed his neurology training at George Washington University in Washington, DC. He went on to complete a fellowship in both Neurophysiology (Epilepsy/Neuromuscular Disorders) and Sleep Disorders at the State University of New York (SUNY), Stony Brook.
Dr. Bruno is in solo practice in the Stony Brook area and is the Associate Clinical Director of The Comprehensive Epilepsy Center of Long Island at St. Charles Hospital. Dr. Bruno also holds a position as Clinical Associate Professor of Neurology at SUNY Stony Brook and is a recipient of America’s top Physicians and Patients Choice Award.
Dr. Lombardo has over 20 years experience in the practice of Sleep Medicine. During this time he founded and directed numerous sleep centers and supervised more than 18,000 sleep studies and consulted on and cared for an equal number of patients in his private practice. In the role of Medical Director, he has successfully supervised numerous sleep facility accreditation site visits over the span of 15 years.
As a trained pulmonologist, he is well-versed in the physiology of breathing, the most important factor in the diagnosis and treatment of breathing disorders during sleep. He broadened his training in sleep medicine at the Sleep Disorder Center at New York Cornell Hospital.
New York City, the “city that never sleeps” provides an ideal vantage point for studying the sleep problems of both blue-collar and white-collar occupations. Dr Lombardo has worked closely with New York’s transit workers, treating shift work sleep disorders and insomnia in those who are often responsible for operating the world’s most extensive round-the-clock transportation system. In addition to sleep testing facility oversight, his sleep disorder practice evaluates and treats approximately 1500 new referrals per year.
He has been a guest on the Regis Philbin Show and appeared on CNN as well as on a variety of cable shows, local news and radio programs, and local publications. In addition to authoring Sleep to Save Your Life (Harper Collins), and numerous scientific publications, he has contributed to key articles on sleep in the Readers Digest, NY Times, Wall Street Journal, and New York Daily News.
Dr. Neil Shinder is board certified in Sleep Medicine, as well as pulmonary, critical care and internal medicine. He is a graduate of McGill medical school in Montreal, Canada. His residency in internal medicine was at the University of Toronto, Canada.
His fellowship training in internal medicine was at Cornell University/New York hospital. His fellowship training in pulmonary was at Queens University in Ontario, Canada. He is a fellow of the College of Chest Physicians. He is a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. His private practice is in Nanuet, Rockland county N.Y.
Lee M. Shangold, MD FACS graduated from SUNY – Upstate Medical School in 1986. He completed his residency in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City, and became Board Certified in 1992.
Dr. Shangold treats all aspects of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. His areas of special interest include both pediatric and adult sleep medicine and allergy. He is one of approximately 200 otolaryngologists in this country who are also boarded in Sleep Medicine through the American Board of Medical Specialties. He is also the Medical Director of Night and Day Sleep’s Staten Island lab.
Dr. Shangold is also an active member of the New York State Society of Sleep Medicine as well as a course instructor for the American Academy of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery annual meeting on the topic of sleep medicine. He is the co-director of 2 different sleep labs on Long Island. In addition, he is a fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngic Allergy
Dr Warren Daniel Spinner completed training in Neurology and Internal Medicine at Stony Brook University Medical Center. He continued his studies receiving additional training in Sleep Medicine and completing a Fellowship in Neurophysiology. Initially embarking on a career in academic medicine Dr. Spinner taught medical students, residents and fellows at the Stony Brook University School of Medicine. In 2014, after many years of clinical and academic practice Dr. Spinner started North Suffolk Neurology with the goal of delivering personalized and high quality patient care. Dr. Spinner believes that by providing comprehensive care with an integrated medical approach the best results can be achieved. Dr. Joseph Genovese joins North Shore Medical Arts, LLP after fourteen years of solo practice specializing in Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, Sleep Medicine and Internal Medicine.
Dr. Genovese received his BS degree in Cardiorespiratory Sciences from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He completed his medical degree at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, NY in 1987.
Following a Rotating Internship at The Methodist Hospital of Brooklyn he completed three years of Residency Training in Internal Medicine at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Dr. Genovese became a Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine, receiving his board certification in Internal Medicine in 1991.
After his residency training, Dr. Genovese completed a three year fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine and sleep medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians.
Dr. Genovese is the Medical Director of the Respiratory Care Program at Molloy College in Rockville Centre, NY. He is an Adjunct Professor of Medicine for the Biology Department at Hofstra University having taught Pulmonary Medicine in the Physician Assistant Program. He is an adjunct clinical professor of Critical Care & Pulmonary Disease of Touro College of Ostheopatic Medicine. He is the medical director of the United Sleep Lab in Commack, NY.
Dr. Genovese currently maintains privileges at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn, NY, North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, NY, and Long Island Jewish Hospital in New Hyde Park, NY.
Eric Teller earned his BA, Summa cum Laude, from Yeshiva University and his medical degree from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School – University of Medicine of New Jersey in 2002. He was trained in Internal Medicine at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey between 2002 and 2005. After a year as Chief Resident in Internal Medicine, he completed a fellowship in pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine at New York Presbyterian Hospital – Columbia University Medical Center.
Dr. Teller joined Kamelhar Pulmonary in 2009. He has a faculty appointment at NYU School of Medicine where he teaches medical students, residents and fellows at NYU Langone Medical Center. He performs bronchoscopies at the hospital to diagnose patients with lung cancer, infections and other lung diseases.
Dr. Teller was awarded a grant during fellowship from the ResMed Foundation for the treatment of sleep disordered breathing in patients with congestive heart failure. He specializes in the diagnosis and management of the breathing and sleep problems in patients with heart disease. He has privileges at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary where he interprets sleep studies.
His expertise includes sleep apnea, insomnia, other sleep disorders, cough, asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease, sinus disease, lung cancer and interstitial lung disease.
Dr. Teller prides himself on using an evidence based approach in the treatment of patients. He customizes the plan for each patient and utilizes relationships with other specialists, therapists and DME companies throughout NYC and beyond to find the right approach in the management of each patient’s underlying disease.
Jonathan M. Waxner MD, FCCP, FAASM is a board certified specialist in sleep disorders. He completed his undergraduate studies at the State University of New York at Albany, graduating Cum Laude and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 1986. In 1990, he earned his M.D. degree from the New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York.
After graduation from medical school, he pursued Internal Medicine studies at Winthrop University Hospital and completed this residency in 1994. He continued at Winthrop and completed a three year fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine and Sleep Medicine.
Following the completion of his training in 1997, he joined Nassau Chest Physicians, P.C. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine and Sleep Medicine. Dr. Waxner is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP) and a Fellow of the American Association of Sleep Medicine (FAASM).
Dr. Waxner is on the professional staffs of St. Francis Hospital, North Shore University Hospital (Manhasset and Plainview), and St. Joseph Hospital.
